Getting To Know Your Root Chakra


Tantric tradition teaches that there are seven energy points on your body that allow an energy exchange between your physical and spiritual beings.  Its important to keep these points healthy for your wellbeing.  The Muladhara, or Root Chakra, is the energy center at the base of your spine, connecting you to a sense of groundedness as well as instincts for survival.  If you are feeling like you have no energy, or you notice you're getting angry on the drop of a dime, this chakra may be off balance.  Here's some tips to start healing your root chakra and to feeling secure, stable, and full of energy:

NUTRITION:  A healthy root chakra vibrates the color red.  Red foods like apples, raspberries, cherries, peppers, radishes, and beets provide this vibration as well.  You may want to try foods with roots themselves such as carrots, onions, garlic, or potatoes.

YOGA:  Popular yoga asanas that ground and stabilize you connect you with your root chakra.  Mountain poses, forward bends, and child poses are all great exercises.

VISUALIZATION:  The root chakra is associated with the four petal Lotus flower.  Find a quiet place and sit in your favorite meditation position.  Image you have a  red lotus flower at the base of your spine and it's energy is flowing into your body as you inhale.  Exhale.  Continue as you begin to feel recharged and grounded.
